Many couples were humiliated as police officers dragged them out of their hotel rooms while having s*x.  Consenting adults, who had signed into several different hotels in Mumbai, India, were surprised to find the police knocking on the doors of their rooms on Thursday.  More than 40 unmarried couples were arrested and taken to a police station,
where they were insulted.
Some of them, especially college students, were ordered to call their parents.  They were all subsequently charged with “indecent behavior in public,” even though they were in private rooms when they were caught having s*x.
One 19-year-old woman said that she is contemplating suicide because of the humiliation she endured. Her parents are not talking to her since they learned of her s*xual encounter with her boyfriend.
A 21-year-old woman, who went to a hotel with her fiance, whom she will marry next month, said that she was slapped by a female police officer for daring to protest the arrest.  According to police, a team from the Malwani police conducted the raid around 3:00 p.m. in several hotels, lodges, and resorts in the vicinity of Madh Island and Aksa. The couples were held at the police station for 5 hours, where they were humiliated in front of the other couples and many police officers.
Police forced the teenagers to call their parents to let them know why they were arrested. The parents were allegedly also shamed over the actions of their children. All 40 couples were charged with indecent behavior in public and were ordered to pay a fine. Many people took to social media sites to express their anger over the arrests of consenting adults who had s*x.  Lion Heart Kejriwal wrote: “Shame on Mumbai police for snooping, spying and raiding consenting adults making love not war in private.”
