City Boss Pellegrini Extends His Contract Through to 2017

Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini has extended his contract until June 2017, the club announced on Friday.

As well as Pellegeini, the Chillean’s backroom team of Ruben Cousillas, Xabier Mancisidor and Jose Cabello have also had their contracts extended until 2017.

Pellegrini told the club’s website “I am proud to manage Manchester City and am therefore very pleased to have agreed this contract.

“I have a very good quality group of players and a great team of people to work with on and off the field and at all levels of the Club.

“I am focussed on the coming season and confident that my team and I will respond to the constant support shown to us by everyone including of course our fantastic fans.”

City open their 2015-16 Premier League season away to West Bromwich United on Monday night.

The 61-year-old’s previous deal was due to end next year but is now expected to remain at the Etihad stadium for further 12 months.

“This agreement allows Manuel to focus on the challenge of guiding a team capable of both fighting for domestic titles and competing for European honours,” says City’s chief executive Ferran Soriano.

Former Real Madrid and Malaga coach Pellegrini was named City manager in June 2013, leading the four-time English champions to the league title in his first season.

They however failed to defend that title last season, losing to Chelsea as rumours of his possible exit began brewing at the end of the previous campaign.
