A father is devastated over the loss of his son, who died during a house fire in Pennsylvania. 3-year-old Layden Thomas tragically died after he followed his father into the burning house.
The father was trying to save the rest of his family. The father, Terry Thomas, rescued little Layden and put him outside before returning to save his 2 sisters and their mother.
Police Lt. Mark Johnson Thomas said that Terry put his 3-year-old son on the porch and returned to get his wife, 5-years-old daughter and an infant. Sadly, the boy followed his father back into the house. When he returned and did not find his son, he and his neighbors began looking for the child.
Firefighters later found his body under a bed in the burning house. Investigators suspect that the child died of smoke inhalation. “I did my best and got him to safety,” said the devastated father.
Police said that the fire started after a storm knocked out the power and the family lit a candle in their living room.
It is believed that the candle has overturned and set the house on fire. The fire was ruled accidental.
