NUJ Seeks Recall Of Correspondent Expelled From Aso Villa

nujThe Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has demanded the immediate recall of the State House Correspondent of the German Radio Deutsche Welle, Mr. Ubale Musa.
Recall that security operatives at the Presidential Villa Abuja on Monday withdrew Musa’s accreditation tag for asking visiting President Idris Derby a question the administration considered embarrassing.

Reacting to the development, National Secretary of NUJ, Shuaibu Usman Leman, faulted the Presidency’s action saying the way and manner in which the journalist was expelled from the Presidential Villa was abysmal.
“In the usual intolerant fashion, the authorities that be at the seat of Government felt embarrassed by this very pertinent question which most Nigerians would like to have answered. Indeed, it is this lack of openness in Government which leads to citizens speculating on serious issues of national security like this one.
“A government which prides itself on its democratic credentials should not be seen to be irked by such harmless questions. Rather, it should be seen to be forthcoming at all times. Had the Government been thus proactive, perhaps it would have been spared such an ‘embarrassing question’”, Leman said.
The NUJ Scribe, therefore, demanded a reversal of the expulsion order saying it would serve Government better if this decision on Ubale Musa is rescinded without delay.
